Overview:: Spend three days, two nights making art on Ossabaw Island--Georgia's first Heritage Preserve. Bring your own materials to paint, sketch, write, compose music, or shoot photos on this unspoiled barrier island on Georgia's coast.
An Ossabaw Island visit includes excellent art-making inspiration: lush maritime forests and marsh wetlands, 19th- and 20th-century historic buildings, and possible sightings of a variety of wildlife including wading birds and feral hogs, as well as free-roaming domesticated donkeys, and perhaps an alligator. Take short hikes on forest and marsh-side trails or ride to the beach in the back of a pick-up truck.
Trip activities:: Arrive on Ossabaw Island on Friday in time for social hour (BYOB) and 5pm planning meeting, followed by dinner. An overview of Ossabaw Island history and fine tuning the retreat agenda will be part of this gathering. Possible after-dinner activities include time around the outdoor fire pit.
On Saturday morning, enjoy an early breakfast and then spend the day on your own project at several locations around the island.
Possible locations for making your own art include South Beach, Middle Place, causeways, and other scenic areas. Eating your sack lunch will be part of the day's activities while out roaming the island. Transportation is via pick up truck. Note that the Torrey-West Estate is NOT part of this trip.
You'll return to the North End in time for dinner and a relaxing evening on the porch, or head out to find other art-making inspiration.
Sunday morning, sleep in a bit or rise early to wander around the North End on your own. Enjoy breakfast before packing up for the trip home (first boat departs at 11am).
Creative Retreat Fees include: two nights and three days on the island; transportation to and from Ossabaw and to various sites on the island; housing or camping on the island; plus five catered farm-to-table meals.
This trip is designed for adults and for children age 12 and over. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult.
FEES: $350 per person for transportation, Club House stay, meals, programming. Space is limited. Your payment secures your reservation. Please provide your best email address. One week before the trip, participants will receive an email outlining the details of the trip, including driving directions, recommendations on what to bring, and more.
